The Postcolonial Sauna is a mobile artistic intervention on Hamburg’s Heiligengeistfeld that exposes the city’s colonial continuities and their present-day implications. Inside a specially designed mobile sauna, visitors engage in a physical and sensory confrontation with colonial history and its ongoing legacies. During the sauna sessions, thematic audio loops based on postcolonial literature are played—produced in collaboration with Redpinata and accompanied by curated readings and performances.

Each day is dedicated to a specific thematic focus, including: racism across five continents, the colonization of the body, antisemitism and colonialism, post/East perspectives and anti-Slavic racism, and racism against Sinti* and Roma*.

The program is complemented by readings, discussions, and artistic interventions—realized in collaboration with partners such as FC St. Pauli, the Association for Mobile Machinations, KIgA e. V. – Kreuzberger Initiative gegen Antisemitismus.

With Dan Thy Nguyen, Nina Reiprich, FC St. Pauli, Verein für mobile Machenschaften, KIgA e.V. and others.
