In recent years, hundreds of native varieties of apple trees, which are old and very resilient, have been planted in Apfelpark Hilbersdorf. Many local residents were involved in the process; the planting and maintenance encompassed institutions such as the Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland (German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation), the Chemnitzer Schulmodell (Chemnitz Model School), the Dschoy firm, and the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union). As part of the haamit heimaten festival, apple expert Reiner Amme will lead a hike through the park, explaining the growth and development of the trees and delving into the unusual features of the different apple varieties.
