The FWT: Freies Werkstatt Theater has been a venue for artistic and social debate in Cologne since 1977. At the intersection of theatre, performance, and discourse, it creates spaces for new perspectives, exchange, and collective reflection on contemporary challenges. With its Focus on: series, the FWT: addresses global crises and processes of social transformation while the Foyer & Flamme format fosters dialogue with the city’s wider communities. Bringing together discussions, a communal courtyard canteen, and concerts, it encourages informal encounters. Art is understood here as a social practice that makes solidarity tangible, brings different perspectives into dialogue, and creates a space within the theatre for marginalized communities.
